Germany-born British wildcard Jan Choinski makes his Wimbledon debut shortly on court 17 – and there’s a reason he might be a bit lighter on his feet than your average tennis player.
That’s because both of the 27-year-old’s parents, Singapore-born mother Dominique and Poland-born father Andrzej, were professional ballet dancers.
“I danced at my parents’ ballet school until I was 12,” said Choinski. “But it was never in my mind to become a professional ballet dancer – it was a way of building myself up for tennis.”
But Choinski has a tough nut to crack in the first round, facing Dusan Lajovic, who is one of only four men to have beaten 23-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic this year.
