We believe that sport should be accessible to all people and is a source of excitement, connection and well-being. We want everyone to be able to do it, also mobilizing ourselves to protect the planet’s resources, thus building a more sustainable world. That is why our positioning is clear: “Make sport yours”.
We are passionate and helpful sports people. In the store, on our website and in our app, our slogan is: “Always satisfied”.
Benoît, one of the 7 founders of Decathlon, remembers the words of founder Michel Leclercq, who said from the beginning: “Advise customers as if they were your best friends. There is no need to change. And, above all, we can never say no to a customer.”
47 years later, nothing has changed!
Our history
It all began in the summer of 1976 in a car park at the Englos shopping centre near Lille (France).
Michel, Benoit, Didier, Stéphane, Hervé, Nicolas and Stanislas were passionate sportsmen and entrepreneurs, although some of them didn’t know it yet. An idea that was unprecedented until then: to equip all sportsmen and women, from beginners to enthusiasts, in one place and at the best prices. And that’s how Decathlon and its name came about: the place where 10 sports were brought together under one roof.
How did we become product designers? Because of a delivery problem with Peugeot bicycles! Our bicycle dealer at the time refused to serve us and our answer was: “We will create our own bicycles.”
This idea still remains the distinguishing feature of Decathlon today: we design and sell our own sports products.

At Decathlon, the most important virtues are passion for sport, passion for the team and passion for entrepreneurship.
The human side is the foundation of our company and we are based on a few simple rules: concentrate on what you like to do, you have the right to try it, make mistakes and try again. Here we invent, test and work, but always having fun.

3. Order information: Once the order is placed, we will inform you of the status of your order by email.
